Take a look at these. The one with more red on it is a Sonoran Shovel-nosed snake. The other is a Western shovel-nosed snake.
Both are nocturnal and - unlike most of the snakes found here - both are restricted to the desert. Note the adaptations for burrowing - recessed jaws, smooth scales and nasal valves. Note too their general resemblance to coral snakes, which are venomous!
They're quite harmless to humans, despite the diet they enjoy, which is mainly spiders, centipedes and scorpions!
